In 2023 I published an essay, “Love’s Work,” about the way Hayao Miyazaki’s animated films portray work, celebrate talent, and comment on their own production. Now I’m writing a book for FSG that will explore Miyazaki’s nested worlds, the politics of Studio Ghibli, and the power of animation to reconnect us to ourselves.
